Client requirements

In Spring 2016 IETG were appointed by Jacobs Consulting to carry out a flow survey on behalf of the Manchester Airport Group. The survey included 21 flow monitoring locations of which 12 locations were land-side and 9 locations air-side.

The aim of the project was to undertake a flow survey of Manchester Airport’s existing storm water drainage system to assist with verification of the hydraulic model.


IETG Solution

As Principal Contractor we liaised directly with MAG Security for access issues to minimise disruption to the airport – ensuring where possible that all works were coordinated to reduce impact on the airport’s operational requirements. Due to the complexity of health and safety issues and security requirements a third-party rescue team was required at all locations where the confined space entry was assessed as NC3 or above.

Our in-house team of data analysts reviewed the telemetered data on a daily basis and scheduled maintenance as and when required. The data was submitted to our client on a weekly basis and also available for them to view via our online data platform. The project was managed by a dedicated Project Manager, experienced Field Operatives and Data Analysts.


The Results

IETG collected all flow survey data using the latest ADS dual sensor flow monitors. All sites collected 3 independent depth entities and 2 independent velocity entities for increased data redundancy. Data was delivered to a central hub on a daily basis for quick storm analysis and data confidence. All interim and final reporting was delivered using the latest digital reporting tools.
